...one step beyond
18th – 21st April 2014,
Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow, UK.

Code of Conduct

Badges

Please display your badge prominently at all times. Only convention members and hotel staff should be in the convention areas.

Costumes and Weapons

Costumes are welcome at Satellite 4. There will be a Hall Costume competition on Saturday, and we particularly encourage members to dress up for the Ambassadors’ Ball and the Modern Prometheus Disco.

A strict weapons policy will be enforced. Weapons worn as part of a costume should be replicas or very obviously toys e.g. pink plastic water pistols. Replica side-arms must be peace-bonded. Larger replica weapons may be carried at the discretion of the Head of Operations. Members not adhering to this policy will have their weapons confiscated for the duration of the convention.

Photography, Audio and Video Recording

In general you are welcome to take photos and make recordings at the convention provided they are for your own personal use and not for commercial purposes. However, if someone asks not to be photographed or recorded, then you must heed that request. The same applies if someone is willing to be photographed or recorded but asks that the image or sound not be posted to the internet.

Photography or video recording of the Art Show exhibits is forbidden, and some dealers may not allow photography or video of their stock.

Photography and recording of programme items is generally allowed provided that all participants agree and that it is not disruptive. However, some programme items will specifically indicate that no recording is allowed. Please respect these restrictions where applied.

Posters and Leaflets

You are welcome to leave flyers for your convention or SF group in the dealers' room or convention bar areas but, please, not around the rest of the hotel. Similarly, please restrict posters etc. to the convention areas and use only white tac (no blu tac, pins, sellotape, nail-guns etc.).

Behaviour

We want everyone to enjoy Satellite 4… so please be considerate of other members. It is unacceptable to harass or abuse someone for any reason, but especially on the grounds of their:

  • age
  • appearance or costume
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • race
  • religion or beliefs
  • sex or gender
  • sexual orientation or practice
This applies not only to the physical world, but also to electronic media relevant to the convention.

If a convention member feels that they have been the subject of harassment or abuse, they should raise the matter with the duty committee member (DCM) or another committee member if preferred. The committee will investigate each issue, in a timely fashion, with sensitivity, and attempting to be fair to all parties involved. Where appropriate, action will be taken ranging from an informal chat and suggested changes to behaviour, through a formal verbal warning, to withdrawal of membership without refund and ejection from both the convention and hotel. Suspected criminality will be referred directly and immediately to Police Scotland.

Children

Although Satellite 4 is aimed mainly at adult fans, children are welcome to attend. Many of our regular programme items will be accessible to younger members, and there will be a few items geared specifically towards particular age-groups. Crèche facilities will be available. However, Child and Junior members remain the responsibility of their parent, guardian or designated responsible adult whilst at the convention, and Child members must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or designated responsible adult at all times.

Mobile Phones

Please turn these off, or at least onto 'silent' mode, during programme items.
